System Requirements

SOFTWARE
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition with MS SQL 2000 SP 3 Standard Edition or MS SQL 2005.  Microsoft Windows Server 2003 as the web server (IIS 6). This can be same as Server as above, or it can be a different server.  Note: MS SQL Server will not run on Windows 2003 Web Edition Server

HARDWARE
Machine sizing will depend on expected database (size and number of documents and the amount of demand on the server). A good starting point would be a 3.0Ghz P4 Class Processor or above, with 1 Gb RAM. (SQL loves RAM so it will impact performance and more is better, get 2Gb+ if you can).

Disk Space will depend on the number and size of documents. If you have documents of an average size of 100Kb, and you want to store 12 versions of 200 reports you would need a minimum of 240 Mb (12 X 200 X 0.100Mb), but allowing for overhead and some expansion, we would double that to 500Mb. (This is on top of the Operating system and Database space requirements).  Disk Space is relatively cheap so overdoing on the size of the drive(s) is strongly recommended.

SMALL STORAGE Alternatives:
If you are only going to put a small number of documents into onHAND you can use Microsoft’s Personal SQL edition (MSDE 2000). You will be limited to a maximum database size of 2Gb.

You can also choose to use Microsoft Small Business Server Premium that has Microsoft SQL as part of the installation, but Small Business Server has other limitations in terms of number of connected computers, etc.
